Graduate Programs Available at Austin College
Master of Medical Science - Physician Assistant (PA) Program
At Austin College, the PA program strives to impart the knowledge, skills, professional behavior, and concepts of medical humanities that graduates must acquire to deliver compassionate, high-quality healthcare to each patient along their professional journey. The PA Program curriculum is an integrated set of courses that extends 24 months, beginning with 13 months of intensive didactic classroom training followed by an 11-month clinical phase. Upon degree completion, graduates go on to take a national certifying exam and practice as physician assistants/associates. Students must complete at least a bachelor's degree before matriculating into the PA program.
Austin College has applied for Accreditation – Provisional from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The Austin College PA program anticipates matriculating its first class in June 2024, pending achieving Accreditation – Provisional status at the September 2023 ARC-PA meeting.
Accreditation – Provisional is an accreditation status granted when the plans and resource allocation, if fully implemented as planned, of a proposed program that has not yet enrolled students appear to demonstrate the program’s ability to meet the ARC-PA Standards or when a program holding accreditation-provisional status appears to demonstrate continued progress in complying with the Standards as it prepares for the graduation of the first class (cohort) of students. The PA program at Austin College will not commence in the event that provisional accreditation is not received. This means that students will not matriculate into the program and any deposits that have been made will be refunded. The Austin College PA program is also pending approval by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
